Clothing that Flatters Your Shape: Ruler Shape

The beauty about women is that they come in different shapes and sizes. Some have wide hips and some don’t. Some are slender and feline and some are curvy. Whatever your shape, height or dress size, there are certain rules that you should be following when it comes to the clothing that you put on to your body. You want to wear clothing that gives a good representation of who you are. Yes, you should be confident in anything that you wear, but you should also know exactly what you can wear and what you cannot.

Even if you think that you have the worst shape in the world or aren’t the perfect size 6, there is still something very beautiful about your body that can be brought to life. The only problem is that you may not be wearing clothing or colors that flatter you body type. Below, you can find my list of the “do’s” for the ruler shape.

The Ruler Shape (or Rectangle)

This shape can sometimes be very challenging. You’re built straight up and down with no curves any where. Everything you put on just seems to hang there, right? Don’t fret; there are plenty of things that you can do to create the illusion of a few curves. Because your hips and chest seem to be the same circumference as your waist, you want to dress your top and bottom to create the illusion of hips and a bust.

Dresses- If you’re comfortable, try buying more form fitting dresses and put a wide, dark colored belt around your waist. This will separate your top from your bottom and cinch your waist just a bit so that it looks like you have more of a shape. If you want to really look voluptuous, try adding more volume to your outfit by embellishing either your top or your bottom. Bold blazers and cardigans should be your best friends! Dresses with pre-cinched waists should be your go to dresses.

Tops- When you’re shopping for blouses, try to get blouses that have embellishments. V neck tops will also give you more of a bust. Lots of detail and interesting sleeves are great options.

Pants- Try and stick with pants that have a little flare in the leg. A boot cut pant or flare pant will look great. Embellished pockets and detail on the pants will also be flattering. Try to buy mid rise pants. A high waist pant will not flatter your shape.
