An Open Letter to My Son

Even after reading all of the parenting books Barnes and Noble had to offer, after listening to every seasoned parent’s advice, and after reading every mommy blog on the internet …nothing could have prepared my heart for the overwhelming feeling of love/ peace/joy/contentment that I felt for you on the day you were born. You were the most beautiful baby boy in the hospital that day. Trust me, it’s true. All the nurses kept telling us so! But perhaps that was because you were the ONLY baby boy born at the hospital that day:-)

Now, a year later, you are a little person with your own personality. You are resilient, you’re observant, you’re a comedian, you’re playful, you’re a morning person (mommy is NOT!), you’re inpatient, you’re strong willed, you’re inquisitive, you’re a fighter, you’re tough as nails, you’re gentle, you love to sing, you’re very independent, and you’re a daddy’s boy! I could go on and on about how magnificent you are, but you’ll have the rest of your life to hear me do that.

Happy 1st birthday Blake. You’re my favorite thing. My shooting star.
