Most of you don’t know this, but back in September, I had a botched haircut. I went to a Dominican salon, asked for a trim and left with half the hair that I came in with. Did it look awful? No. But they unnecessarily cut off healthy hair. Hair that I would have liked to still have on my head. You can read more about my experience here.
Since then, I’ve been on a mission to grow back the two or three inches of hair that I lost, possibly more. I was at a comfortablelength and made the decision to keep my hair trimmed to that length. It was perfect for me, so you can only imagine how frustrated I am that I have to focus on hair growth now.
When I first started the process of growing my hair, it wasn’t going so well. It’s kind of hard to grow hair if it’s being manipulated daily. Breakage is bound to happen if you’re always twisting and styling. I’m the queen of twist outs, so I had to take a step back and give my hair a break.
For about 12 weeks (they’ve been re-done twice) I’ve been wearing large Senegalese twists. It’s the one protective style that I always go to when my hair needs a break. While I’ve had them in, I’ve been taking Manetabolism Healthy Hair Vitamins by The Mane Choice. I finished two bottles of the regular formula, now I’m taking Manetabolism Plus. The company added extra goodness in the vitamins to help with hair growth. In addition to the vitamins, I’ve also been massaging my scalp at least 3 times a week with a mixture of extra dark castor oil, eucalyptus oil, and peppermint oil. All three of these oils stimulate hair growth.
Eucalyptus – encourages circulation on the scalp, kills fungus, encourages growth of new hair
Extra Dark Castor Oil – thickens the hair, encourages hair growth, strengthens hair and helps dry, brittle hair
Peppermint Oil – keeps hair follicle clogging dandruff away, balances pH level of your scalp, stimulates blood flow to the scalp thus making hair grow
Because my hair has been hidden for 12 weeks, I’m going to remove my current twists, give my hair a good washing and conditioning and let my hair be free for a week or two. I will more than likely get my hair re-twisted to encourage further growth. I’m hoping that the vitamins, along with the oils, will give me the results I’m looking for. I will post a comparison picture of my hair after I wash and style it over the weekend. Wish me luck!
