Not sure if you’ve heard, but my beloved Shea Moisture recently sold a stake of their company to folks who don’t know much about natural hair. When companies do this, it usually means that watered down products and cheap ingredients are soon to follow. As of right now, the formula for my fave, Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie, remains the same. But I’m sure it won’t be long before we see a major difference in the quality of the product. Therefore, I’ve been on a mission to find another brand, that still provides the moisture that my hair needs, and the setting power that I love for my twist outs.
One of the reasons why I fell in love with Shea Moisture’s products is because the line provides MOISTURE while offering holding power for your curls. That’s really rare! So I was disappointed to know that the brand sold a piece of their company to people who have no clue what my hair needs.
Last month, my Essence Beauty Box had a leave-in conditioner in it by Eden Body Works. I used it to detangle my hair before I created this style…
The leave-in made my hair feel so soft and moisturized that I started to do research on other products that Eden BodyWorks offers. I came across their Coconut Shea All Natural Curl Defining Crème at Sally’s and decided to give it a try this weekend.
I washed and deep conditioned my hair and then blow dried (see the reasons why I no longer style my natural hair while wet here). I then proceeded to spritz my hair with water for hold and applied mango butter. Next, I applied the curl defining crème, twisted my hair in 7 large twists, and sat under my hooded dryer. The results were soft waves that held up until today! I’m not sure about how this curling crème will do in the long run, but right now I’m enjoying it. I’ll re-twist my hair tonight using the crème. Keeping my fingers crossed that there isn’t too much build up after using it (another reason why adored Shea Moisture’s Curl Enhancing Smoothie).
Day 1 of my wavy twist out.
